What’s Free on Steam This Weekend (Sept. 11-14)

Borderlands 4 is getting a major content drop this week, and Steam players have a convenient excuse to jump into the looter-shooter without paying a cent. The game is one of five PC titles available to play for free on Steam this weekend, giving PC players a pretty strong selection of games to check out before the offers expire.

The free promotions include a mix of shooters, racing, strategy, and medieval multiplayer combat, so there’s a little something for just about every kind of player. And with Borderlands 4 at the top of the list, this is a particularly good weekend to see what all the fuss is about.

What’s free to play on Steam this weekend

Borderlands 4 is available to play for free just as the game gets a major update and new content. Sept. 10 marks the launch of Story Pack 2, FL4K and the Last Resort, alongside Loveless the Hacker, the game’s newest Vault Hunter. Loveless is essentially Borderlands 4‘s answer to Borderlands 2‘s Zer0, bringing stealth, sniping, melee attacks, status effects, and a murderous cyberworm companion to the game.

The other four games offer a pretty different assortment of genres and vibes. Surviving Mars: Relaunched is a slower-paced sci-fi city builder where you establish and manage a colony on the surface of Mars, while F1 25 is a racing sim built around the Formula 1 season.

And the smaller games you can play are Crime Boss: Rockay City, an infamous first-person crime shooter about pulling off heists and taking over a fictional Miami-inspired city, and Mordhau, a brutal medieval multiplayer game built around massive melee battles.

All of these games can be played for free on Steam through Sept. 14.

If you end up liking one of these games, you can pick it up on Steam after the free weekend. Here’s what each one is currently selling for:
