A drunk Russian passenger, flying with 
United Airlines from Italy to a party in New York, has allegedly bitten and kicked a flight attendant who refused to serve her more alcohol, court documents have revealed. She also tried to open the aircraft’s door midflight. Kristina Kedysheva, 36, had to be held down by five people to subdue her. She continued to struggle for three hours.
As a result of the incident, which happened on Tuesday, the aircraft had to divert to Bangor, Maine, around midday. Flight UA18 from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is operated by a Boeing 777. United has confirmed that all 274 passengers and 13 crew landed safely before continuing on to EWR.
It Was A Particularly Violent Incident
A fellow passenger has described Kedysheva as “nutty.” She is alleged to have been slurring her words and demanding more drinks. When the request was refused, she filmed crew members and accused them of being racist. The captainthen ordered her to return to her seat. Kedysheva then tried to reach for the aircraft’s rear door handle. Five crew members and passengers restrained her, the complaint says.
While being restrained, Kedysheva fought back. The affidavit says that one flight attendant was bitten on the wrist and then kicked in the stomach. This flight attendant suffered a shoulder injury and breathing difficulties. She also allegedly scratched a passenger’s arm, who needed medical treatment. Kedysheva was restrained but continued to thrash for three hours.
Simple Flying has approached United for comment. The airline said:
“United flight 18 landed safely in Bangor, Maine to address an unruly passenger. Law enforcement met the aircraft upon arrival, the customer was removed and the flight continued to Newark.“
Kedysheva Has Been Interviewed By The FBI After Her Arrest In Bangor
After landing in Bangor International Airport (BGR), Kedysheva was arrested by local police, US Customs and Border Protection officers, and FBI Special Agents. She was taken for an FBI interview with a Russian interpreter. Kedysheva confirmed she was traveling to New York for a party, but the stories soon diverge. She said she spent the first few hours of the flight drinking red wine (three glasses) and a whiskey and cola. However, she said the flight attendants were unnecessarily rude once they had cut her off.
Kedysheva then blamed the altercation on the flight attendants and an “Italian guy” who took her phone. She told the FBI she might have scratched someone, but denied biting. “It was too much, so quickly. Maybe, maybe, but I think it’s OK in this situation,” she told the FBI. Kedysheva appeared in a Penobscot County, Maine court the day after. She was charged with interference with a flight crew member or attendant and assault.
This Incident Is Days After Another Unruly Passenger Bound For Newark Was Tied To His Seat
Airlines have reported 1,200 passenger incidents to the FAA already this year, as reported by News 12, so it’s not surprising other noteworthy incidents have happened recently. The most infamous has been the alleged homophobic and racist rant against flight crew by Arthur Lundeen, aged 67. Lundeen then became physically abusive to flight crew aboard Flight 618 from Dallas.
The passengers and flight crew then used duct tape and zip ties to restrain him from his seat. The aircraft diverted to Baltimore. 
American Airlines has told the New York Post that “law enforcement met the aircraft and assisted with deplaning the customer before the flight continued to its destination.” Lundeen has been charged at the state level with second-degree assault. He is starting to receive payback outside the law. He was an Arizona-based real estate agent. However, he has been fired from his role as president at Long Realty in Tucson.
