Today, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, announced the Canadian Commercial Corporation’s (CCC’s) new government-to-government agreement with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) for the supply of Canadian potash from Canpotex.
This new agreement will diversify Canada’s trade, secure long-term demand for Canadian potash and support Bangladesh’s food security while supporting Canadian workers.
Canada is among the world’s leading producers and exporters of potash, an essential ingredient in fertilizer production that helps support agricultural productivity and global food security. The world needs reliable suppliers of fertilizer, and Canada has what it takes to deliver. Canada’s fertilizer exports grew 13.2% last year, reaching $9 billion.
This agreement strengthens Canada’s role as a trusted supplier to global agriculture and creates new opportunities for Canadian exporters and workers. It also builds on a long-standing partnership between CCC, Canpotex and BADC. Since 2014, with the addition of this new agreement, CCC has facilitated 12 contracts between Canpotex and BADC, resulting in the delivery of more than 3.5 million metric tonnes of Canadian potash to Bangladesh.
