Adidas’ Handball Spezial Gets a Dynamic Polka Dot Collab

Buddy Guy would hardly be the most expected choice of a musician to inspire a sneaker collaboration, but Sneaker Politics is invoking the homegrown blues great for an Adidas shoe likely to carry broad appeal.

The Sneaker Politics x Adidas Handball Spezial “Rhythm & Blues” employs a patchwork polka dot treatment inspired by Guy promising his mother he’d return with a polka dot Cadillac upon his leaving Louisiana for Chicago in 1957. The leather upper starts with a white base with black polka dots and inverts the colors for the heel overlay. The T-toe then features white dots on blue, and a white on red look is used for the eyestay.

Solid navy leather forms the tongue and mustache, the latter of which hosts gold debossed branding for Sneaker Politics. The New Orleans-based boutique also put its 20th anniversary logo on the insole and added gold-tone metal tips to waxed laces for a sense of refinement. Rounding out the shoe is a classic translucent gum outsole.

Although he hit it big as a musician and then some, Guy didn’t make it back to Louisiana before his mother passed. But because his mother loved the pattern, he took to wearing it himself as a signature look and even had Fender make him a custom polka dot Stratocaster.

The Sneaker Politics x Adidas Handball Spezial “Rhythm & Blues” releases Saturday through Sneaker Politics’ website and its stores. Pricing is set at $110.
