Today, during a Nintendo Direct dedicated to the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series, Columbia Pictures and Nintendo released the first-ever trailer for the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, starring Bo Bragason as the titular Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.

When we see the film, apparently, we’ll understand why there isn’t a subtitle, says Miyamoto during the Direct. He then asks us what role we think the Triforce will play? Apparently, the film will draw on all elements of the 40-year history of the series to date, but beyond that there is not much we know about the film. It seems the movie will not be based on any one single game, however. More news is coming at a later date, including – we should hope – a trailer.

What else do we know about The Legend of Zelda live-action movie adaptation? Well, we know the initial shoot has wrapped filming in New Zealand (after starting the shoot in October 2025), and we know that Wes Ball – of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Maze Runner fame – is directing. We know it’s going to get a theatrical run, but then will stream on Netflix at an as-yet-undisclosed time after the initial release.

If you’re keen to see the young stars at the centre of this film in something else to tide you over until release, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth took on a fairly big role in House of the Dragon Season 3, playing Daeron Targaryen in a season that really showed his acting chops as the Targaryen began to crumble in earnest.

If you want to feel old, Ainsworth was only eight when Breath of the Wild released. The young actor will be 18 when the film launches on 30th April, 2027, though – somehow making it 10 years since the Nintendo Switch game first launched.
