U.S. places sanctions on dozens of Iranian airlines as conflict escalates


The U.S. Treasury Department placed sanctions on more than two-dozen Iranian airlines and their service providers Tuesday as part of an effort to choke Tehran off from the global economy.

The airline sanctions are the latest in the administration’s “Operation Economic Outcast,” through which U.S. officials hope to pressure Iran into a deal to end the Iran war, which the United States launched with Israel in late February.
