Match scorecard

Play was abandoned without a ball being bowled on the opening day of the County Championship Division One game between Sussex and Surrey.

After heavy overnight and morning rain it was announced that there would be no play before lunch.

Umpires Jack Shantry and Nigel Llong than waited a further hour before finally calling it off for the day.

Sixth-placed Surrey and even fourth-placed Sussex, 16 points better off, still need points to be safe from relegation.

The toss is yet to take place, so the two teams are yet to be announced.
