S&P/TSX composite down more than 200 points, U.S. stock markets also trade lower



TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down more than 200 points weighed down by weakness in the technology, telecommunications and industrial sectors, while U.S. stock markets also fell.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 213.

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down more than 200 points weighed down by weakness in the technology, telecommunications and industrial sectors, while U.S. stock markets also fell.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 213.64 points at 36,300.16.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 532.64 points at 52,881.61. The S&P 500 index was down 21.70 points at 7,696.90, while the Nasdaq composite was down 20.26 points at 26,486.73.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.62 cents US compared with 72.25 cents US on Friday.

The October crude oil contract was up US$1.24 at US$92.72 per barrel.

The December gold contract was down US$26.20 at US$4,450.40 an ounce.
