Nathan Sowter: Durham spinner to join Surrey for 2027 season


Surrey have signed Durham and England Lions leg-spinner Nathan Sowter on a “multi-year” white-ball contract.

The Australian-born bowler is familiar to the Kia Oval, having played there in the past five seasons of The Hundred, both for the Oval Invincibles and MI London.

Sowter, 33, told Surrey’s website, external: “When the opportunity to move to Surrey came up, it made sense for me and my family.

“Club cricket in the county gave me my shot at professional cricket, so it is nice to return as a Surrey cricketer.”

Sowter’s professional career started with Middlesex in 2015 after impressing in club cricket for Surrey-based team Normandy. He joined Durham in 2022.

He has taken 196 wickets in 195 T20 matches during his career, which has also included spells in the Caribbean Premier League and the International League T20 (ILT20).

Sowter will join Surrey for the 2027 season. The club have not stated the exact length of his contract, calling it a “multi-year deal”.
