Weekend Box Office: ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Still Reigns

‘The Odyssey’ returned to second place.
‘By Any Means’ opened fourth.

As summer wraps up with the Labor Day holiday weekend, it’s still very much ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s world, with the superhero outing crossing a landmark at the box office, earning more than $900 million on the domestic chart, earning an estimated $22 million for the four-day weekend period.

It became the fastest movie to hit that point, and is on track to overtake ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ which holds the domestic crown with $936.6 million.

Elsewhere, ‘The Odyssey’ voyaged back to second place on $16.4 million four-day, while ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ enjoyed a healthy second weekend with $14.5 million.

Mob/FBI drama ‘By Any Means’ had to make do with a fourth place launch and $7 million, while horror title ‘Insidious: Out of the Further’ tumbled to fifth with $7.5 million.

Outside of the top five, fellow scare pic ‘Buddy’ was sixth on $7.46 million, while fellow new arrivals ‘Fall 2: Deadpoint’ and horror action movie ‘Onslaught’ stumbled badly.
