Civilization VII Unveils First Expansion “Earthrise” And Major Free Update

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is currently celebrating 35 years of the series and developer Firaxis Games has shared a preview of what’s ahead.

In 2027, fans can look forward to Arc of Tomorrow – a free update for all Civ VII players introducing the Atomic Age and extending the game’s playable span of history from the 1950s to 2050s.

This update will include period-specific gameplay, reimagined approaches to nuclear strategy, new buildings, units, visuals, and much more. More details will be shared in the future.

In addition to this, the first “full, paid expansion” is also on the way. It’s based on the “historic space race” and deploying missions across the solar system. It will be officially titled Earthrise and is scheduled for liftoff in 2027, after the Arc of Tomorrow update.

Firaxis says it will announce more about this first expansion, including additional gameplay systems, content updates, new civs and leaders in the coming months. You can find out more in the video above.
