The 2026-27 Bundesliga season is here, with Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich aiming to extend its dominance over German soccer. But could reinvigorated rivals Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund finally break the Bavarians’ grip?

Fueled by a free-scoring attack led by Harry Kane, Luis Díaz, and Michael Olise, Bayern finished last season a commanding 16 points clear of second-place Dortmund, racking up an impressive 122 goals along the way. Ominously for the rest of the league, Kompany has further strengthened his attacking options with the addition of Moroccan striker Ismael Saibari.

While Dortmund lost big-name stars like Niklas Süle, Julian Brandt, and Karim Adeyemi, it has nonetheless bolstered its midfield for the new season by signing Greek duo Konstantinos Karetsas and Giannis Konstantelias.

Having disappointingly missed out on Champions League qualification last season, Leverkusen can now concentrate on a concerted push for the title with a new head coach in Carles Martínez and some shrewd new signings, including the return of Moussa Diaby from Saudi Arabia. 

The new season kicked off on Aug. 28 and runs through the final fixtures on Saturday, May 22, 2027.

While ESPN held the broadcast rights for the majority of Bundesliga matches last season, there’s a bit of a shake-up this term. There are now two key platforms for watching top-flight German soccer live. A bumper 275 matches will be streamed for free on Fandango, the movie-ticketing brand’s ad-supported streaming service. Meanwhile, 100 games will stream on Peacock and at least 30 games per season will air on USA Network.

Aiming to rival free streaming services such as Tubi, Pluto TV and The Roku Channel, Fandango’s overhauled online service offers over 3,500 hours of recent hit movies and shows, like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Oppenheimer, alongside its comprehensive coverage of the Bundesliga. 

USA Network can, meanwhile, be accessed on Sling TV and other more expensive streaming TV services, such as YouTube TV or DirecTV MySports.

Sling TV’s Blue plan includes USA Network, making it a great option for those wanting to watch Premier League action. It starts at $46 a month (depending on where you live and whether you get local channels) and includes over 40 channels, including other sports channels like ESPN and FS1.

The broadcast rights for showing Bundesliga games live in the UK are somewhat complicated. Friday night Bundesliga games will continue to be broadcast for free on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website. Sky Sports, meanwhile, has the rights to show the Saturday 5:30 p.m. top match each week, while Amazon has the rights to all Sunday Bundesliga matches, which they sell individually as pay-per-view events.

If you already have Sky Sports as part of your TV package, you can stream the network’s Bundesliga coverage via its Sky Go app, but cord-cutters will want to get set up with a Now account and a Now Sports membership to stream the game.

The service is also included with a Prime membership.
