Something strange is happening to the Starcraft website, as BlizzCon inches ever closer

The Starcraft website is suffering from some mysterious visual glitches and distortion roughly a week before BlizzCon. As a result, fans of the RTS series are fiercely speculating on a possible reveal.

The website, which currently promotes Starcraft Remastered, is showing jittering text and background art the moment you click on it. Scrolling down, the same effect is causing distortion for embedded videos of Starcraft Remastered gameplay. Something is clearly going on, but given there’s no flashing ‘Starcraft 3’ or anything obvious like that, what this is actually hinting at remains unclear.

Here’s the Starcraft Remastered announcement trailer from almost 10 years ago. Feeling old yet?Watch on YouTube

Taking a gander at the Starcraft Subreddit, a mix of reignited hopes and dejected pessimism. “Anything but a mobile game and we’ll all be stoked,” wrote user HerdofBuffalo. Another user Iceblue responded with “It’ll be a mahjong game”, while others posted “do you guys not have phones” in reference to an infamous moment during the Diablo Immortal reveal a few years ago.

Snark aside, there was also some real optimism here from those happy to see a sign of life from their favourite RTS. For example, user Forsaken_Seesaw_1772 hoped for a selection of Starcraft 2 updates including a soft remaster and a Terran expansion. Others share this sentiment, wanting some further support for Starcraft 2 going forward as well as the obvious desire for Starcraft 3.

This website tease is noteworthy for two reasons. As mentioned earlier, BlizzCon is scheduled to take place starting the 10th September, and given there’s no dedicated Starcraft panel nor event, anything that’ll be shown off will likely be taking a spot during the opening ceremony.

On top of that, a recent report states that the next Starcraft game will not be developed by Blizzard at all, but Nexon. That, obviously, would be a major deviation from the norm at Blizzard, but given the series’ continued popularity in South Korea perhaps Nexon would be a great fit. Who knows!
