Siddle, 41, remains part of Melbourne Stars squad for the BBL and will work with NSW across all their Sheffield Shield matches. He joins Peter Forrest and Daniel Smith as part of Haddin’s coaching team.

Siddle played the majority of his state career for Victoria but also had three seasons with Tasmania.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be joining the NSW Blues this season,” Siddle said. “I’m very much looking forward to the opportunity to mentor this talented crop of players ahead of what will be a massive summer. I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Meanwhile Botha, who resigned as Queensland coach earlier this year, will work with the team on a temporary basis.

“Peter and Johan joining the Blues set-up shows that we’re committed to having high-quality people around the team,” Haddin said. “Not only does Peter bring a wealth of experience and knowledge, but he exemplifies how we want our cricketers to play the game.

“We’re confident we have built a well-rounded coaching team ahead of what should be an exciting season for the Blues.”

Aside from Australia’s big three quicks – Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood – who rarely play state cricket due to international commitments, NSW’s pace stocks include Liam Hatcher, who is part of the Australia A squad to tour India, the emerging Ryan Hadley, allrounder Jack Edwards, the experienced Sean Abbott and left-armer Ben Dwarshuis.

In the spin department, Joel Davies will tour Zimbabwe and South Africa with the ODI squad while Tanveer Sangha is part of the white-ball leg of the Australia A trip to India.

NSW start their season with a One-Day Cup fixture against Queensland on September 22 with their opening Sheffield Shield match from October 8 against Tasmania.
