British Airways Cuts A Massive 77 Routes From London Heathrow: See The Full List

Everyone knows that London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is by far British Airways’ top airport. For the remainder of 2026, the oneworld member plans an average of 330 daily departures from LHR. The UK’s busiest airport accounts for eight in ten of BA’s services.

All airlines cut routes or shift them to another airport serving the same city. BA is no exception. In the past ten years, schedule analysis using Cirium Diio data shows that the carrier has ceased flying from LHR to 77 airports globally. This excludes airports, such as Berlin Tegel, that have shut. However, everywhere else, with at least four departures, is included.

50 Destinations In Europe No Longer Served From LHR

Since 2016, BA has ceased flying from LHR to the following 50 destinations in Europe. Given that 73% of the airline’s flights from LHR are within this continent, it is hardly surprising that most of the places no longer served are there. As the International Air Transport Association, which is the trade body for airlines, considers Turkey to be European, that nation is included here.

Many places saw LHR flights end in 2020, 2021, and 2022, which was during the COVID-19 pandemic. Including them is perhaps a bit unfair, especially because some of them, such as Antalya, Genoa, and Terceira, only had very limited flights. In those three examples, they each had just eight departures.

Unsurprisingly, many of the eliminated destinations — 21, in fact — are served by BA EuroFlyer from London Gatwick Airport (LGW). From September 2026 to July 2027, they are Alicante, Antalya, Bari, Bordeaux, Cagliari, Catania, Funchal/Madeira, Gran Canaria, Grenoble, Innsbruck, Kalamata, Kos, Lanzarote, Lyon, Malta, Menorca, Montpellier, Porto, Seville, Turin, and Verona. BA CityFlyer also has winter flights from London City Airport (LCY) to Innsbruck.

21 Destinations Cut In Africa, Asia & The Middle East

Between 2016 and 2026, BA ceased flying from LHR to the following 21 destinations in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Gone are Algiers (flown from LHR until 2023; now served from LGW), Baku (2016), Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (2020; now served from LGW, as it is not high-yielding), Beijing Capital (2019), Beijing Daxing (2024), Beirut (2020), Chengdu (2017), Durban (2020; see below), Islamabad (2024; now served from LGW), Jeddah (2026), Kuwait (2025), Lahore (2022), Luanda (2018), Mauritius (2022; now served from LGW), Muscat (2020), Osaka Kansai (2020), Seoul Incheon (2020), Seychelles (2020), Tehran Imam Khomeini (2018), and Tokyo Narita (2020). BA continues to fly from LHR to Tokyo Haneda.

Durban, which is served through King Shaka International Airport, is intriguing. BA introduced flights in 2018, and they existed through 2020. Flights left South Africa at around 7:30 AM and flew back to Europe during the day. This was very different compared to BA’s other South African routes. To help increase the interest in beds, BA’s aircraft remain on the ground during the day in South Africa and fly overnight back home. Durban is not a large market from London (51,000 passengers last year) and is lower-yielding than Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Continuing the theme of cuts in the past decade, BA’s frames are no longer deployed from LHR to Antigua (flown from LHR until 2022; served from LGW), Calgary (2022), Charleston (2019), Orlando International Airport (MCO; see later; served from LGW), San Jose (California; 2023), or St. Lucia (2022; served from LGW).

BA very briefly flew between LHR and MCO in 2026. It did so for a few weeks for the UK school holidays. The airline also served the ever-popular leisure destination in Florida from the UK’s busiest airport amid the pandemic in 2021/2022. Usually, of course, BA’s flights only exist from LGW. That’s the situation from now on, unless the carrier confirms the return of LHR flights in 2027.
