Young Suns is a 1-to-4 player cozy narrative life sim set on Jupiter in the aftermath of a successful revolution, and is leaving Game Preview today!
We really wanted to create a universe that felt welcoming, rather than cold and harsh, and you can see this reflected in the vibrancy of the universe we built. Moonlets are teeming with life, abandoned stations are awash in bright colors with characters tinkering away to bring them back to functionality, and space itself is full of resources to collect and space boosts to nab as you make your way across the cosmos.
Young Suns is constantly changing and expanding, all thanks to the thoughtful feedback from players during Game Preview. I’m so excited to share what’s to come in our 1.0 launch, and can’t wait to continue growing Young Suns with the community. Let’s dig into the world and see what’s new.
1.0 Update Highlights
- Explore twelve new moonlets, collect resources, and craft dozens of new items
- Spacefare in style with new decoration sets for your ship
- Meet the revolutionaries of the Jovian System with three brand new types of quests, learning their side of the story
- Scan the world with your trusty Jovipedia to learn about the Jovian System ecosystem and history
- Bond with a dynamic cast of characters, each with reactive dialogue and daily chats
- Align with any of the eight factions that suit you best, earning faction reputation and unlocking exclusive rewards
Note: Because of the massive overhaul in 1.0, Game Preview save data will not be compatible with 1.0.
Nothing Exists Alone
Nothing exists alone in Young Suns, and we were really eager to use our time in Game Preview developing Young Suns with the community. We’re so grateful to everyone who took the time to check out the Jovian System and share their thoughts. One of the first community suggestions was a way to clean out your inventory, which led to us developing our donation boxes found on stations, providing players with a way to earn more gratitude and free up space in their backpacks.
Another suggestion we implemented was more masculine hairstyles. We’ve always strived to have our character be as inclusive as possible, and when players asked for a wider range, we got to work. Players can now choose from a variety of hairstyles, and we’re excited to keep expanding.

Discover Your History and Determine Your Future
While in Game Preview, many of our core systems, including narrative and quest content, were still in-progress. In 1.0, you’ll meet the revolutionaries of the Jovian System through our eight distinct factions, all who have a different idea of how to rebuild. You’ll be able to align with any of these factions that suits you best, earning reputation and faction-exclusive rewards to add to your character and customize your ship, and their side of the story.
You’ll explore derelict ruins overflowing with pre-revolutionary junk, converted stations that have upcycled machinery corporations left behind, and moonlets home to fantastical flora and fauna, rich mineral deposits, and even more discarded bits and bobs from abandoned construction work.

Be Who ou Are, Among the Stars
Character customization is one of my favorite parts of Young Suns. Representation is really important to us, and we’ve always strived to reflect that in our character creator. We’re so excited to showcase how much our customization has grown with the feedback from the community.
During Game Preview, all cosmetics were unlocked, which was great for exploring the cosmos in style, but made customization feel separate from the rest of the game and gave players little connection to the cosmetics themselves, all of which were made with care and directly relate to the world of Young Suns, like our t-shirt for Gorbit, an in-game mascot. We decided to incorporate some cosmetics into our new narrative and quest content for 1.0, making them unlockable through exploration on moonlets, trading with factions, and completing quests, which makes for a more satisfying and cohesive experience.
To get started, you’ll step into the somaforming chamber on Wednesday station to choose everything from the aging of your character, to their decorative face paint, to the kind of spacesuit they’ll wear while exploring one of twelve new moonlets. The team worked tirelessly to incorporate as many different body types and styles as possible, including arm and leg prostheses, a wide variety of skin tones and hair textures, and an in-depth system to create a range of body sizes, with even more options in the works to create your perfect sundog.
I’m so proud of the work we’ve done with Young Suns. The KO_OP team was inspired by our own hopes for the future and real-world movements, and we’re so honored to be able to create a game in collaboration with the community about solidarity and reciprocity that focuses on the work that comes after liberation. In Young Suns and at KO_OP, nobody’s left behind.
