S&P/TSX composite down nearly 100 points as financial stocks fall, U.S. markets up



TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down nearly 100 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the financial sector, while U.S. stock markets traded higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 95.09 points at 36,718.56.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 230.87 points at 53,694.75. The S&P 500 index was up 50.99 points at 7,726.69, while the Nasdaq composite was up 343.55 points at 26,473.75.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.13 cents US compared with 72.07 cents US on Wednesday.

The October crude oil contract was up 11 cents US at US$82.34 per barrel.

The December gold contract was down US$6.30 at US$4,647.00 an ounce.
