“My perfect US Open outfit feels equal parts sophisticated, athletic, and personal. There should always be a tailored or structured piece (my looks in the past consisted of pleated linen dresses and structured bags) and a flowy element for breathability. It’s summer in New York City, after all! Slim sneakers are practical and look super chic when paired with a breezy dress, though I also love the idea of thong heels or structured wedges paired with slouchy, low-rise trousers and a slim-fitting polo. I’ll probably follow this formula this year. For a bit of personality, add some of your favorite accessories. Think acrylic bangles or a fun pair of sunglasses to make if feel like an outfit from your closet and not tennis cosplay. When all else fails, drape a thin sweater or rugby shirt over your shoulders. “I don’t know if you’ve heard, but it’s hot in New York in August and September, so whenever the US Open rolls around, I like to stick with light colors. (They also feel very tennis to me—don’t ask me to explain why.) Pants feel too constricting when you’re standing and sitting, so I’ll often opt for a skirt and sleeveless top or lightweight dress in white or ivory. Tip: Skip sleeves to give yourself a chance to get a tan in between matches. If you’re going to be hot, you might as well, right? “First thing’s first: I always wear sneakers to the US Open and to any tournament, for that matter. It’s a bit of a hike from the train to the courts, so comfortable shoes are a must. An easy midi dress, like the one I’m wearing in this photo, is foolproof. I always make sure it’s lightweight and breathable for hot, humid days and nights. For daytime matches, I never wear short hemlines because the plastic seats can get uncomfortably hot for bare legs. I also never ever go to a daytime match without a wide-brim hat, preferably one that ties under the chin in case it’s windy. I’m a serious tennis fan, so I never want to be away from my seat for too long, which means I’m in the sun for hours and need protection.
