Sadie Sink Styles Archival Alexander McQueen Dress At Disney Showcase

Sadie Sink donned an archival piece while marking a historic moment in her career at Disney’s Entertainment Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on Aug. 14, 2026, in Anaheim, Calif. During the event, it was announced that Sink would be playing Jean Grey in Marvel Studios’ upcoming “X-Men” movie.

To celebrate the occasion, the “Avengers: Secret Wars” star was styled in a gown from Alexander McQueen’s spring 2004 Deliverance collection. The form-fitting patchwork gown featured a spaghetti-strap bodice that gave way to angular panels printed with colorful butterfly wings.

Nude panels broke up the vibrant printed sections. The archival skirt flared into textured layers, sewn to create a waterfall effect down Sink’s legs. She added sparkle with gilded pointed-toe pumps featuring sheer panels that created a peekaboo effect.

McQueen’s Deliverance line pulled inspiration from the 1969 film “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?,” a drama set during the Great Depression directed by Sydney Pollack. The film’s characters participate in an exhaustive dance competition, competing for a hefty cash prize.

The British designer echoed the movie’s themes in three sections: eveningwear that harkened back to Old Hollywood ahead of the stock market crash, bright and playful sportswear and daywear constructed of utilitarian fabrics like denim. The progression of clothing seen in each section is meant to reflect the state of the world before, during and after the crash, a transition from glitz and glam to practical silhouettes meant for labor.

The collection is a famed one, partly for the dance element with movement choreographed by Michael Clark, but also because it resonated with audiences who saw the presentation as an allegory for McQueen’s intense burnout. More than two decades later, Sink brought one of its butterfly-wing gowns back to the red carpet for a major turn in her own career.
