Two months after revealing Crossfire, That’s No Moon have seemingly laid off 14 members of staff

Two months ago, That’s No Moon, a studio made up of former Naughty Dog and Infinity Ward devs, revealed Crossfire, a cinematic military shooter with a sci-fi flair. The team first formed around five years ago, but now it appears that there’s layoffs before they’ve even managed to get their first game out the door.

As spotted by IGN, a number of developers from That’s No Moon shared that they were laid off from the studio. According to one post from a senior concept artist, a total of 14 staffers were affected by the layoffs. An environment artist also shared that this was their first job in the industry while putting out a call for work. There doesn’t appear to be any kind of suggestion as to why these layoffs have taken place, especially considering the game was only announced two months ago, let alone have a release date.

Not much is really known about Crossfire outside of its initial reveal trailer. There is meant to be some sort of adaptive cover system in which you’re able to, as you can guess from the name, adapt to the environment around you. How this plays out in practice isn’t the clearest, but a lot of what can be seen in the trailer is an abundance of rocky terrain to stealthily crawl around.

You may have also gathered that Crossfire is part of the larger Crossfire series, originally a Korean-developed online tactical first-person shooter. The series has had mixed success since the original. There was CrossfireX, also a shooter which had Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment develop the game’s singleplayer campaigns, which was shut down just over a year after it was released (and never came to PC in the first place). A real-time strategy take called Crossfire: Legion came out in 2022, but was delisted last year.

Solidarity to the devs affected by these layoffs.
