An extension to Silverstone’s deal to continue hosting MotoGP is a boost to the local and national economy, the track’s managing director has said.
MotoGP and Silverstone announced the news to keep the highest class of motorbike racing at the Northamptonshire venue until 2028 earlier this week.

The move came as the track prepares to host this year’s British Grand Prix, with tens of thousands of fans expected to attend on Sunday.
“It’s great news,” said Silverstone boss Stuart Pringle. “MotoGP is enjoying a strong period at the moment and we hope to introduce more and more motorsport fans to see this spectacular racing.”

Pringle described the new MotoGP contract as “very important” for generating money both in the county and beyond.
“There’s a lot of money spent in the local economy… but there’s an awful lot more generated for the UK economy… through the industry,” he said.

The managing director continued the extended deal supported jobs in the county, including seasonal weekend roles, while the number of the circuit’s full-time staff had also increased.
“Having international motorsport events at the circuit has built the motor sport industry around Silverstone,” said Pringle.
He added ticket prices for MotoGP were “more accessible” than for the track’s Formula 1 event.
“It’s the friendliest atmosphere here – it is a genuinely collegiate and happy festival atmosphere all weekend,” he said.
Police patrols
Away from the track, Northamptonshire Police said people living near the circuit could expect to see increased community patrols by officers during the weekend.

Neighbourhood policing Ch Insp Dave Wakeman said officers would provide a “visible and reassuring presence in local communities and at campsites where many fans will be staying”.
“We want everyone to enjoy the event for the right reasons, so please travel safely, use official parking and transport options, and be considerate of local residents and businesses,” he said.
