Minister Anand meets with Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Côte d’Ivoire

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Nialé Kaba, Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Diaspora of Côte d’Ivoire, in Abidjan yesterday to discuss shared priorities related to bilateral diplomatic cooperation, economic cooperation, multilateral engagement, and sustainable development.

Minister Anand congratulated Minister Kaba on her role and highlighted the strong partnership between Canada and Côte d’Ivoire, anchored in shared values of democracy, economic resilience, and multilateral collaboration. This was underscored by the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish a mechanism for bilateral consultations with the goal of furthering the overall partnership.

During their meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on regional stability, peacebuilding, and security dynamics in West Africa, emphasizing the importance of locally driven solutions and democratic governance. They also noted the importance of deepening economic and commercial ties. Minister Anand underlined that Canada looks forward to launching negotiations to expand the Air Transport Agreement between Canada and Côte d’Ivoire. Minister Anand also emphasized Canada’s Africa Strategy, which is strengthening engagement with African partners through economic cooperation, trade and investment, and support for sustainable development. She highlighted the Africa Trade Hub, which supports Canadian businesses seeking to identify and pursue opportunities across African markets, including in Côte d’Ivoire.

The ministers also reviewed opportunities to foster inclusive growth and advance shared objectives regarding human rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and youth.

Minister Anand and Minister Kaba reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close dialogue to further strengthen the bilateral relationship and collaborate on pressing international issues.
