After a whirlwind one-day trip to the Greater Toronto Area yesterday, Prime Minister Mark Carney will be making the rounds in Saguenay today, where, as per his office, he’s booked in for closed-to-media tour of a local “aluminum facility,” (11 a.m.) as well as a “brief media availability.” (11:25 a.m.)

While it isn’t listed on his official itinerary, his visit could very well include a quick side trip to Chicoutimi to show his support for Daniel Gobeil, the local dairy farmer and former chair of the Quebec dairy producers’ association carrying the Liberal banner in the hotly-contested byelection in a riding that, up until last month, was held by Conservative MP Richard Martel, who is now a senator in waiting.

If he does, he may find himself crossing paths with the trio of Bloc Québécois MPs — Mario Simard, Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe and Marilène Gill — who are set to appear alongside Bloc hopeful Caroline Dubé for a mid-morning press conference at her campaign office. (10 a.m.)

Meanwhile, according to an X post from Conservative MP Pierre Paul-Hus, who also serves as the party’s Quebec lieutenant, he spent yesterday on the hustings with his party’s chosen candidate, Régis Gaudreault, “looking for the Liberals, who don’t seem to be campaigning,” as well as promoting the Conservative call for the government to extend the temporary break on federal gas taxes, which is currently set to end after Labour Day.

For his part, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will hold a press conference in St. John’s, where, as CBC News reports, he was one of the “notable names” attending the Royal St. John’s Regatta on Quidi Vidi Lake yesterday, where he “took questions from reporters and casually spoke with people who were out for the annual summer event” following a one-on-one chat with the province’s Progressive Conservative premier, Tony Wakeham. (11 a.m. NT)

• Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald has a mid-morning event on his political home turf of Prince Edward island, where he’s slated to join Kinkora Mayor Robert Duffy to share the details of new federal support for local infrastructure. (10 a.m. ADT)
• Moving west, Defence Minister David McGuinty hits the stage at the University of Calgary to “highlight” his government’s “long-term commitment to the province and its important role in Canada’s defence, security and innovation ecosystem” as part of a keynote address that, as per the advisory, will also include a new initiative related to its ongoing “commitment to rebuilding Canadian defence capacity and investing in the Canadian defence industry. “ (9 a.m. MT)
• Elsewhere in the province, Emergency Management Minister Eleanor Olszewski drops by the Edmonton offices of the Sherbrooke Community League with a fresh tranche of infrastructure funding. (5:45 p.m. MT)

Rounding out the roster, Governor General Louise Arbour continues her week-long stay in Quebec City with a tour of the Valcartier military support base, a closed-door chat with the organizers of the La grande journée des petits entrepreneurs “and a few young, inspiring entrepreneurs” and an afternoon stop at La Tablée des Chefs to “meet people taking part in its Culinary Camps,” according to her office.
