The Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, has concluded a successful visit to India, reinforcing Canada’s commitment to deepening economic ties diversifying trade, and advancing a relationship grounded in mutual respect.

In New Delhi, Minister Sidhu held high-level meetings with Bhartia Group, Tata Group, HCL technologies and a roundtable with representatives of Canadian pension funds, Air Canada and other Canadian companies to explore new opportunities for collaboration. He emphasized that strengthening trade and investment ties in priority sectors such as critical minerals, innovation, agriculture and digital industries will unlock opportunities for businesses and workers in both countries.

Minister Sidhu met Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, to reaffirm Canada-India trade and investment ties, building on discussions between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, in June 2025. He also held discussions with Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, highlighted Canada’s role as a reliable partner in liquefied natural gas, carbon capture and critical minerals, which are key to supporting India’s energy transition and industrial growth.

During the visit, Ministers Sidhu and Goyal renewed the Canada-India Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment as co-chairs. The dialogue provides a platform to explore new areas of collaboration, strengthen supply chains and support two-way trade. Minister Sidhu looks forward to welcoming Minister Goyal to Canada soon.

At the Confederation of Indian Industry Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam, Minister Sidhu, reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to trade diversification, helping Canadian businesses make lasting connections with international partners, and fostering stronger ties with the Indo-Pacific region. The renewed Canada-India partnership will help both countries compete globally and create good jobs.
