Minister Anand announces additional sanctions against Iran

February 14, 2026 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

Today, the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that Canada is imposing additional sanctions against 7 individuals under the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations (Iran regulations).

Canada will continue to respond decisively to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s (Iran) efforts to use repression and violence beyond its borders as well as against its own people. Alongside its like-minded partners, Canada is implementing these sanctions to address Iran’s use of transnational repression, violence and repressive tactics.

The individuals sanctioned today are linked to Iranian state bodies responsible for intimidation, violence and transnational repression targeting Iranian dissidents and human rights defenders.

Iran’s use of proxy agents and criminal networks to silence critics—including through harassment, surveillance and planned acts of violence in Europe and North America—has raised serious concerns among Canada and like-minded partners. These actions threaten the sovereignty of other states and undermine the principles of international law and global peace and security.

The imposition of these sanctions sends a clear message that Canada will not tolerate the Iranian regime’s attempts to intimidate, harm or silence voices inside or outside Iran—including its own people, who were killed, injured and arbitrarily detained during recent protests— and individuals who deserve to live peacefully in Canada, without fear of reprisal.

Canada will continue to take concrete action to counter Iran’s destabilizing activities, uphold international law and stand with the Iranian people as they seek freedom, dignity and respect for their human rights.
