One-Day Cup: Durham remain unbeaten despite Ben Stokes duck

Durham proved they are not a one-man show in the One-Day Cup as Will Rhodes stepped up to the plate to maintain their unbeaten start on a day also featuring wins for Yorkshire, Sussex and Warwickshire.

Talisman Ben Stokes has been in red-hot form since leaving the worries of Test cricket behind him, posting unbeaten scores of 108 and 73 in this competition – but he lasted just one ball in Durham’s chase of Glamorgan’s 326-6.

It was Dan Douthwaite who put the frighteners on, removing Emilio Gay and Stokes in consecutive balls.

But it was a case of ‘no Stokes, no bother’ as Rhodes donned the cape to post his career-best List A score of 148 not out. He and Kasey Aldridge put on 145 to lift Durham from 97-6 to 242-7.

After Aldridge went, James Minto (30) and Rhodes got them home by three wickets with three balls to spare at 328-7.

Rhodes had earlier taken 2-31 with the ball but it was a day for the batters with Eddie Byrom (76), Zain ul Hassan (65), Callum Nicholls (45) and Douthwaite (45) helping Glamorgan set a challenging, if ultimately unsuccessful, total.

Victory lifted Durham third in Group B, level on points with Yorkshire and Middlesex.

Yorkshire ended Worcestershire Rapids’ unbeaten start in emphatic fashion, winning by six wickets with 56 balls to spare at Clifton Park.

Will Luxton posted his second consecutive century following a 117 against Sussex on Sunday, reaching a career-best 126 as Yorkshire chased down Worcestershire’s under-par 230 with plenty to spare.

Half centuries from Dan Lategan (67), Henry Cullen (70) and Matt Waite (53) proved insufficient as the remainder of the Rapids line-up failed to contribute with the bat.

Luxton, who is now the competition’s top scorer with 331 runs, took his side to the brink of victory, departing four balls before George Hill hit the winning runs.
