Nike‘s biggest hit of the year isn’t a sneaker, but a foam slip-on backed by science to alter your state of mind. The Mind 001 has sold out each time it’s released for seven months running, and August is set to bring a particularly abundant drop for the mules.
The Nike Mind 001 will release with five new colorways while also bringing back its “Light Bone Grey” and “Black/Hyper Crimson” treatments. Monochromatic is the name of the game for the fresh wave, with options in “Cucumber Calm” green, “Hemp,” “Old Royal” blue, “Summit White” and “Triple Black.” Each of these comes with metallic silver Swooshes and nodules keeping close to the color of its respective upper.
Intended to be worn before and after competition, the Mind 001 and its Mind 001 sneaker counterpart use 22 foam nodules mapped to induce feelings of calm or focus through pressure points. The two silhouettes constitute the first output from Nike’s Mind Science Department and are the result of 10 years of development.
Chief executive officer Elliott Hill called the Mind franchise the highlight of the quarter during a March earnings call and announced the company would double production in order to keep up with such rabid demand.
Just this week, Nike introduced another slip-on with benefits away from the field of play. The Air Zoom Hyperslide was made in partnership with Hyperice and uses vibration and heat to aid in recovery. It’ll release in September for $250.
The new batch of Nike Mind 001s will release Aug. 20 through Nike’s website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $95.
