PlayStation Network down, as tens of thousands of players queue to play Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls newly-launched beta

Reports of a PlayStation Network (PSN) outage are currently spiking, as many players are struggling to connect to online services.

PlayStation users across multiple only hubs are sharing their own experiences trying to connect to the PlayStation Network. Currently, the top post on the PlayStation Reddit is titled; “Servers are down, your account is fine”. The rest of the Reddit is swarming with similar posts.

These community reports are backed up by Down Detector too, where the data shows reports of outages for the PlayStation Network spiked starting this morning. I’ve personally booted up my PS5 and have verified I cannot login to my Warframe account, which is a real tragedy.

This comes at an unfortunate time given the weekend is only a few hours away, which may force PlayStation users to find something else to do with their free time. It’s even worse for fighting game fans, who were likely excited to play the Marvel Tokon open beta starting today.

We don’t know how many players have hopped into the PlayStation version of the Tokon beta, but Steam can offer insight into its popularity.

According to SteamDB, the game peaked at around 22,087 concurrent players this morning. Then, the player count dipped, likely as people had to go to work.

For reference, the all-time peak of Street Fighter 6 on Steam is 31,839 concurrent players. Obviously, that’s a paid product and not a free open beta. The Street Fighter 6 open beta on Steam hit a peak of 32,787, and we’ve not even hit the weekend yet.

As of writing, there’s no official statement on the PlayStation social media accounts, including the Japanese X account which has previously been among the first to issue insight into these outages. As such, we’ve little to do but wait and hope this issue is fixed soon!
