Marvel fans got a taste of the MCU’s Doctor Doom when he showed up in a mid-credits scene in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, ramping up anticipation for Avengers: Doomsday. A teaser trailer dropped on Monday, with an ominous voiceover from Thor warning all the heroes — and allies — of the threat level to come. The film will hit theaters on Dec. 18, with Robert Downey Jr. in the role of Victor Von Doom.
On April 5 (Easter Sunday), Downey Jr. posted a cheeky animated Instagram image of his character holding a basket of Easter eggs with various superhero logos. It didn’t take long for fans to try to decode the post as a prelude to a trailer while simultaneously guessing who’s guaranteed to show up in Doomsday. Two Spider-Man eggs were dripping in paint alongside ones for Black Panther, Loki, Fantastic Four, Doctor Strange, Thor, Captain America, Namor, Shang-Chi, Ant-Man and a cracked shell for the New Avengers (aka Thunderbolts).
All these heroes and villains are due to show up in Avengers: Doomsday, along with Doctor Strange and X-Men favorites like Gambit, Professor X, Magneto and Mystique.
