Istanbul Tourist

Sunlight laced through mottled trees

Flickers bright on the grass beneath

The ancient city recedes beyond the edges

Of tangled noise and busy streets

We sit, you and I, like time wasn’t finite

Aching legs and swollen feet

Sun stroked shoulders

Blooming pink and hot

Find rest in dappled shade

Far away from what we know

Walking through centuries

Of wealth and faith stone etched

We rest under this different sky

As a nearby mosque sings a call to prayer
