Minister Anand concludes trip to Brazil, announces investments and renewed commitments for cooperation

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today concluded her trip to Brazil, where she announced investments in infrastructure and reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to continued bilateral cooperation.

While in São Paulo, the Minister participated in the fifth Strategic Partnership Dialogue with her counterpart, Mauro Vieira, Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. The dialogue covered a wide range of priorities, including global and regional issues, defence and security cooperation, and trade and investment.

Following the dialogue, Minister Anand announced $125 million in FinDev Canada investments in Brazil, including two sustainable infrastructure projects that expand energy access and sustainable aviation fuel production and deepen Canada-Brazil economic cooperation.

She also announced the first operating plan under the recently signed Canada-Brazil Memorandum of Understanding on Mutual Assistance and Integrated Fire Management, marking an important step in operationalizing the arrangement and strengthening bilateral wildfire cooperation.

The Ministers also signed a Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement, which will allow for the sharing of customs information to enhance trade security between the two countries.

The Ministers were pleased to announce the recent signing of the Canada-Brazil Memorandum of Understanding on Health Sector Cooperation, which will deepen technical and scientific cooperation between the two countries on health.

Minister Anand met with private sector representatives to hear their perspectives on the business environment in Brazil and to discuss emerging commercial opportunities.

She also met with Canadian consulate staff in São Paulo, whose work has been essential in strengthening Canada-Brazil relations and advancing cooperation on trade, security and regional development.
