The ’90s Are Back—29 Editor-Approved Eileen Fisher Buys


I don’t know about you, but my IG is still feeling the effect of FX’s Love Story. As expected, it started with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy–inspired outfits and has quickly spiraled into a ’90s fashion magazine archive, where @curatedbysofiaa lectures on the beauty of vintage Vogue Italia. Thanks to IG comments and its niche community-building, it seems I’m not alone; indeed, fashion people everywhere are pining for the iconic minimalism of the ’90s. So much so It girls are rediscovering brands that defined the decade. The first name on the list: Eileen Fisher.

The Eileen Fisher aesthetic is easily recognizable. Boxy silhouettes. A dedication to natural fibers. Rarely fitted. An emphasis on simplicity. And it is nothing if not consistent. In fact, after starting in 1984, when asked what direction she imagines the brand heading, Fisher affirmed, “We aren’t moving away or departing from our brand principles, but instead it’s more of a deepening of these values.”

With modern brands feeding heavily into this ’90s craving, I was grateful when Fisher confirmed my suspicions that Eileen Fisher is the blueprint: “We’ve never reacted to the fashion trends. It feels like the industry is catching up to the principles we’ve held for decades.” She continued, “What may feel ‘current’ now (minimalism, versatility, fewer, better pieces) has long been embedded in the brand’s DNA.”
