Globally, household air pollution contributes to 2.5 million premature deaths annually. Traditional cooking methods emit 1.2 giga tons of carbon dioxide equivalent a year from direct emissions and forest degradation, which is comparable to the combined emissions of international aviation and shipping, it said.
