Many movie collectors have opted to go digital these days, but considering that films are periodically removed from streaming services, others prefer to maintain a physical collection. If you’re a Criterion fan in that boat, we have excellent news for you. Both Amazon and Barnes & Noble are having monster sales on Criterion 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD collections with discounts as high as 50%. It runs through July 26 and includes new releases and preorders too, so you can even get a great deal on new movies before they come out.
This sale includes the newly announced The Complete Kubrick set, which is 30% off, taking the price down from $600 to $420. A few others to check out: The Criterion Collection 40-Film Set, which is a meaty primer to the world of Criterion. It’s on sale for $400 (was $800). The Wes Anderson Archive: Ten Films, Twenty-Five Years features a total of 20 discs with new 4K digital masters and 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks, more than 25 hours of special features, and a green and orange package that would look handsome on any shelf. Normally $500, it’s on sale for $250. Another notable Blu-ray set is The World of Wong Kar-Wai, which collects seven of the Chinese director’s films, including As Tears Go By, Days of Being Wild, Chungking Express, Fallen Angels, Happy Together, In the Mood for Love, and 2046. Normally $200, this set is also 50% off, reduced to $100. And fans of the world’s most memorable kaiju will also be delighted to see Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films 1954-1975, which is on sale for $112.48 (was $225).
You’ll find many classics here too, including comedic masterpiece Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure for $25 (was $50), the always-heartwarming The Princess Bride for $25 (was $35), David Lynch classic Mulholland Drive for $25 (was $50), Kurosawa at the top of his game with Seven Samurai for $30 (was $35), and Bong Joon Ho’s Oscar-winning film Parasite for $20 (was $40).
Criterion has collected many films adapted from books, too. Academy Award Best Picture winner No Country for Old Men, directed by the Coen Brothers, is a Western crime thriller that’s riveting from beginning to end. It’s on sale here for $20 (was $26.73). David Cronenberg’s 1991 adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ Naked Lunch is disturbing, yet thought-provoking, and it’s also on sale for $20 (was $40). Spike Lee’s Malcolm X features a powerhouse performance from Denzel Washington in the lead role, and it’s just $25 (was $50).
