Dr. Adriana Kugler Receives 2025 ASHE Academic Achievement Award


Dr. Adriana Kugler, an esteemed professor at Georgetown University, has been awarded the 2025 ASHE Academic Achievement Award.


 

The American Society of Hispanic Economists (ASHE) has announced Dr. Adriana Kugler, a Professor of Public Policy and Economics at Georgetown University, as the recipient of the 2025 ASHE Academic Achievement Award. This prestigious award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to economic research aligned with ASHE’s mission.

Dr. Kugler obtained her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1997 and holds a Joint BA in Economics and Political Science with First Class Honors from McGill University. Throughout her career, she has focused on the impacts of labor market and trade policies on employment and earnings inequities, notably among Latino workers. Her research has also addressed the economic implications of immigration and immigrant assimilation in health and education.

Her extensive publication record in esteemed journals and recognition by the academic community demonstrates her influence in the field. Notably, Dr. Kugler received the 2007 John T. Dunlop Outstanding Scholar Award and the 2010 First Prize for Best Contribution in “Globalization, Regulations, and Development” from the Global Development Network.

Dr. Kugler has marked historic achievements in public policy, being the first Hispanic person to hold multiple high-ranking positions such as Governor of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve and U.S. Executive Director at the World Bank. Recently, she has been recognized by Barrons as one of the 100 Most Influential Women in U.S. Finance and by Bloomberg Linea as one of the top 500 influential people in Latin America.

With the Award, the ASHE acknowledges Dr. Kugler’s contributions to economics and her dedication to addressing pressing economic issues affecting marginalized groups.
