Weekend Box Office: ‘Minions & Monsters’ Tops the Charts

As America celebrated 250 years with the traditional fireworks and cookouts during the Independence Day holiday weekend, the Minions returned to take over the box office.

Released as usual on the Wednesday before the weekend, ‘Minions & Monsters’ took the top spot with $36 million across three days and $64.5 million through the five-day period.

“Hollywood has a monster problem.”

Release Date: Jul 1, 2026

Run Time: 1 hr 30 min

Budget: $85,000,000

It’s a lower opening than the previous ‘Despicable Me’ movie (the fourth, which made $120 million in 2024), while the last Minions-centric offering (2022’s ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’) earned $122 million in the same release slot.

‘Toy Story 5,’ which has topped the last two weekends, slipped to second place but still earned $31 million across the three days. It has now made $764 million globally.

Angel Studios’ ‘Young Washington’ made $20.8 million, targeting the patriotic crowd with a story of the first American president, and opening ahead of predictions.

‘Supergirl,’ meanwhile, faced a steep drop, losing 76% for $8.7 million in its second weekend.
