Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride is one of the best tight ends in the NFL, and he might be the best. In his final year in college at Colorado State, he was recognized as the top tight end in the nation.

That led to a bit of an uncomfortable conversation with his school.

He spoke about it on the Bussin with the Boys podcast.

He won the Mackey Award, given to the nation’s best tight end. He said it “was pretty special just to win the award.”

He was given the trophy. It is “huge,” in his words. The university asked him, “‘Are you going to keep the trophy, or are we going to put it in the (school display)?'”

McBride was very clear about it. “It’s my trophy. I’m keeping it.”

That led to an awkward question. “‘Well, we’ve got to get a replica,'” they told McBride. “‘It’s like 15 grand. How are we going to do that?'”

McBride, a college student, answered the only way he could. “I’m like, I don’t know, man. Figure it out.”

At this point, McBride has what was a record-setting deal. He is probably an important donor to the school. He has likely given the university more than what it cost to get a replica trophy now.

But it is wild that a university suggested that a college kid should give up his trophy or perhaps pay for a replica.
