The Washington Huskies’ offense lost more this offseason than it added. There are major questions about which player will step up to ensure Demond Williams Jr. has what he needs to lead this offense. So far, early buzz is leaning toward the Huskies’ junior tight end. In a recent article, Roman Tomashoff highlights a player the Washington Huskies are feeling confident about this upcoming season. Here is what the coaches are saying about Decker Degraaf:

“I think the best thing about Decker is he’d tell you that he left so much on the table,” tight ends coach Jordan Paopao said of DeGraaf during spring practice.

“Some of the drops that him and I talked about, just in terms of Illinois, some of the drops on the sideline, I believe it was the UC Davis game, you know, being able to be consistent and reliable, and to really catch the ball away from his body, I think has been one of the biggest things that he’s gonna try and work on and continue to strive for. But that’s what I love about the kid, I think he is very adamant about making sure that it’s always an itch that you just can’t quite scratch in terms of consistent improvement, daily improvement.”

Demond Williams Jr. will be easier to stop if he does not have a reliable playmaker to look to on a consistent basis. From the coach’s confidence, it looks like Williams will have that guy this season in DeGraaf. Williams and DeGraaf will have 5 weeks to strengthen their connection, and their match-up vs USC could come down to whether or not those two are on the same page.
