British Airways is one of ten airlines with scheduled passenger flights on the Airbus A380. According to ch-aviation, it has 12 superjumbos, which now average 12.2 years old. G-XLEA was the first frame to be delivered in July 2013, while G-XLEL was the final arrival in June 2016.
For now, all of BA’s 12 A380s have 469 seats, but that is due to change by the end of next year. They’re being retrofitted, with 421 seats. 88 economy seats will be removed, enabling 13 more business suites and 29 more premium economy seats. The subfleet will have much-needed new cabins and become even more premium. Their use in high-yielding and high-volume markets will become even more stark.
BA Has Ended A380 Flights On Seven Routes
Cirium Diio data shows that the
oneworld member’s first passenger-carrying superjumbo service took place in August 2013. It was on the very short hop from
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to
Frankfurt Airport (FRA) for crew training and familiarization. Iis common for airlines to introduce a new type on such short routes for this reason. Others have done it with their A380s, such as Air France between Paris and LHR and Singapore Airlines from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur.
Between August 2013 and June 2026, schedule analysis shows that BA has ceased flying the A380 to seven destinations from LHR. You might be wondering about some other airports. For example, BA’s double-decker service to the world’s busiest oneworld hub of
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport returned in May 2026, having last been used in March 2025. Then there’s Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). While this long route last saw the type in May 2025, it is returning to Changi in September this year. This is why neither market appears below.

Hang On: Why Did BA Fly The A380 To Doha?!
BA flew the 469-seater to
Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) due to the World Cup that was held in Qatar in late 2022. This operation was in collaboration with close partner and fellow oneworld member
Qatar Airways. BA used the type to DOH from November 18, 2022, until January 8, 2027. It borrowed Qatar Airways’ LHR slots.
The A380 temporarily replaced BA’s Boeing 777-200ERs on the route to the Gulf. The shift was in collaboration with Qatar Airways, which partly changed its overall network for the World Cup. It focused less on connecting passengers via DOH, which is usually the airline’s bread-and-butter, and more on local or point-to-point traffic for the world’s largest sporting event.
Qatar Airways’ LHR frequency temporarily fell, and BA helped to pick up the slack. BA’s superjumbos meant that LHR-DOH seats for sale in the week starting November 18, 2022, rose by 12% compared to the first week of the winter month. Due to using Qatar Airways slots, BA temporarily changed its DOH schedule. Rather than leaving LHR at 12:30 PM, the departure switched to 9:20 PM. When BA reverted to its usual operation, its Gulf partner once again operated at 9:20 PM.
Due to the ongoing war in Iran, all of BA’s routes to the Middle East remain suspended. While subject to change, the airline’s DOH service is scheduled to return on August 1 (daily 777-200ER). If all goes to plan, the frequency will return to a twice-daily offering on October 25 (the second daily service will be on the 787-10), which is when northern carriers switch to winter schedules based on IATA slot seasons. The route largely exists to feed Qatar Airways’ hub.

Hong Kong Saw The A380 The Most
For obvious reasons,
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) was once a very important market for BA. For years until 2009, before the airline’s first A380 was delivered, up to three daily flights were usually available, mainly on the 747-400. The carrier’s final 747-400 service to HKG was in October 2013, days after the A380 was initially deployed to the Pearl of the Orient. With a total of 2,329 departures, Cirium shows that LHR-HKG was BA’s leading former A380 route.
Due to COVID-19, the increasing dominance of mainland China in the city-state, rerouting to avoid Russian airspace, and more, BA only has a fairly small presence in HKG nowadays (at least compared to its historical offering). It flies daily on the Airbus A350-1000. After 28 years, Virgin Atlantic ceased flying to HKG in 2022.
