Richmond Police Department

Earlier on Saturday, Beshear declared a state of emergency, with rounds of heavy rain expected to continue through Saturday night. More than 6 inches of rain has already been reported in parts of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

“This is a serious flooding event, where teams have already had to conduct multiple water rescues from vehicles and homes across the commonwealth,” Beshear said.

According to the Madison County Coroner, of the three fatalities in the county, two of the deaths, one adult male and one adult female, occurred at a residence in Richmond.

The third death was an adult male who was swept away in his vehicle on Tates Creek Road in Madison County.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for parts of Kentucky and Indiana, reporting that 4 and 10 inches of rain had already fallen in some parts of southwestern Indiana, with more possible.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
