With Group D leaders Team USA having already booked their place in the Round of 32 at World Cup 2026, Paraguay and Australia face off Thursday in what looks set to be a winner-take-all battle for the group’s remaining automatic qualification spot.

After opening their campaign with an impressive 2-0 victory over Türkiye, Australia’s hopes of advancing suffered a setback when it was beaten by the same score by the United States in Seattle last Friday. Despite that defeat, the Socceroos enter this match in San Francisco knowing that a draw would be enough to see them finish ahead of Paraguay, thanks to their superior goal difference.

Paraguay opened the tournament with a heavy 4-1 loss against the United States but responded with a gutsy 1-0 victory over Türkiye. The result was made even more impressive by the fact that La Albirroja played the entire second half with 10 people after midfielder Miguel Almirón was sent off.

Paraguay takes on Australia in this Group D match on Thursday at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium (Levi’s Stadium), with kickoff set for 7 p.m. PT local time. That makes it a 10 p.m. ET start on the East Coast in the US and Canada, a 3 a.m. BST start in the UK and a 12 p.m. AEST kickoff in Australia on Friday.

Matías Galarza’s second-minute goal against Türkiye proved crucial for Paraguay, as their 1-0 win kept La Albirroja’s hopes of reaching the Round of 32 very much alive.

VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security.
