Rod Stewart pauses Utah concert after nearly fainting onstage

Rock icon Rod Stewart was forced to pause his concert in Utah on Friday night and take pulls of oxygen from a tank onstage, saying afterward that he nearly fainted.

TMZ was the first to report the incident at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheater in West Valley City, outside Salt Lake City.

In video shared by the outlet, Stewart grips surfaces for support while singing before motioning to a crew member, who brings over an oxygen tank and places the mask over his nose and mouth.

The crowd applauds and cheers for Stewart as he inhales.

“The show must go on,” Stewart said once he recovered.

The reason for the oxygen break was not immediately clear, though many concertgoers posting about the moment online pointed to the venue’s elevation — West Valley City sits at 4,300 feet above sea level.

The 81-year-old is touring the U.S. on his One Last Time tour. His next scheduled performance is July 31 at the Northwell at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York.

TMZ also reported that Stewart had recently been sidelined by laryngitis, which led him to cancel a show in San Diego.

NBC News reached out to representatives for Stewart for comment.
