Johnson conceded 22 and 17 runs in his two overs on Friday. On Sunday however, Johnson was a very different bowler. He didn’t change his pace but he was far more accurate, as he tied up the Bangladesh top order in the first powerplay.

“It is always nice to contribute to the team’s win. Bouncing back from the other day and wrapping up the series 3-0 is probably what was most important,” he said. “I did not have a great day a couple of days ago, but I am happy with how today went,” he said.

Johnson added that Australia got a lot out of touring Bangladesh, particularly in the way Joel Davies and Nikhil Chaudhary stood up with several of their first-choice players missing due to various reasons. Australia also bounced back from their 2-1 defeat in the ODIs, to beat Bangladesh 3-0 in the T20Is.

“Coming here in these conditions, and the wickets can vary so much. We saw that in the ODIs and we have seen that here,” he said. “Adapting to the conditions to walk away with a 3-0 series win makes us very happy.

“There are probably a couple of guys who are not here from the first team. The guys who have come in, like Joel Davies and Nikhil Chaudhary on their debuts, have fitted into the team beautifully. They performed, and having guys come in and perform straight away is very pleasing to see.”

Johnson said that he fed off the skillful Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa who were consistent throughout the T20I series. Zampa and Ellis took seven and six wickets respectively, while Matt Renshaw was the big surprise with his eight wickets, topping Australia’s wicket charts on their Bangladesh tour.

“Compared to the other day, it was the same strip as two days ago. Both teams batted on it, and I feel like if we had batted first, we might have got a reasonable score similar to what we saw in the first two games,” Johnson said.

“Credit to the way we bowled; we have the best legspinner in the world in Adam Zampa, and Nathan Ellis has been unbelievable for Australia in white-ball cricket for the last five years. Dovetailing off the back of those two sets you up quite nicely.”

Australia are also leaving these shores having seen the development in Bangladesh’s cricket ahead of their Test tour to Darwin and Mackay in August. Nahid Rana stood out with his pace and accuracy, though Bangladesh had a far better performance with the bat in the ODIs than the T20Is. Johnson said that Bangladesh’s performance is making him look forward to seeing them in their home soil in August.

“Nahid Rana was bowling 150kph, and whenever a bowler is doing that, it is difficult no matter what surface you are playing on,” Johnson said. “Credit to him and the way he bowled. I found it quite tough the other day. We saw in the ODI series how good they were. The batters come hard, so it is very difficult over here. I am looking forward to them coming to Australia for the Test matches; it should be competitive.”
