TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:
Inflation
Statistics Canada will report its latest reading for inflation on Monday morning when it is set to release its consumer price index for May. The annual pace of inflation in April was 2.8 per cent, up from 2.4 per cent in March, as higher gasoline prices helped drive the increase.
Auto talks
Unifor is set to begin contract negotiations with the big U.S. automakers on Monday starting with Ford Motor Co. The talks come as the sector deals with the introduction of Chinese electric vehicles into Canada and the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming trade talks regarding the trade agreement between Canada, the United States and Mexico.
Couche-Tard results
Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. will report its fourth-quarter results after the close of trading on Monday followed by a conference call with financial analysts on Tuesday morning. The convenience store operator has introduced an expansive array of food options and promotional meal deals in recent years in a bid to grow the business.
Macklem speech
Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem will give a speech in Paris on Tuesday. He is expected to discuss how the changes in the global financial system are reshaping economies and international relations. The central bank will also release its summary of deliberations for its interest rate decision earlier this month on Wednesday.
Corus results
Corus Entertainment Inc. is expected to report its third-quarter results on Friday morning before markets open and hold a conference call with analysts. The company announced earlier this month that it was expanding “The Morning Show” into the afternoon with a new program, “TMS2,” that will debut on Global and StackTV starting in September.
