Burnham’s UK Industrial Revival Plan Unlikely to Bring Back Jobs


“Even with the interventions taken by the previous and current government, industrial electricity prices are still higher in the UK than in France and Germany,” said Frank Aaskov, director of energy and climate change policy at UK Steel, the industry body. Energy has acted as an “amplifier rather than the sole cause” of the steel industry’s decline, he said, citing global overcapacity, rising carbon costs and a weak investment backdrop.
