UFC Freedom 250: Bruce Buffer dons ’24-karat gold thread’ stars-and-stripes suit for White House fights

Bruce Buffer is always one to dress for the occasion.

The longtime UFC announcer has always made a habit out of sporting unique custom apparel for the promotion’s seminal events, so it should come as no surprise that Buffer continued the tradition for Sunday’s big White House showcase, UFC Freedom 250.

The 69-year-old UFC stalwart showed up to this weekend’s presidential bash wearing a custom stars-and-stripes get-up with “24-karat gold thread stripes” lining the ensemble. According to a representative from the suit’s designer, King & Bay, the entire suit took 64 hours to make and is one of a series of 40 suits set to be made from the same fabric.

More from King & Bay:

The fully handmade garment features a jacquard-weave jacket detailed with gold-coloured stars and tuxedo trousers accented with 24-karat gold thread stripes, crafted from fabric sourced from one of the world’s finest mills. Created exclusively for the historic fight, which commemorates America’s semiquincentennial and coincides with Flag Day and the President’s birthday, the suit’s handmade details took approximately 64 hours to construct.

UFC Freedom 250 takes place Sunday, June 14, on the South Lawn of the White House. The seven-fight card is the first of its kind and has been described as either a celebration of the 250th birthday of America, Flag Day, or the 80th birthday of U.S. President Donald Trump.

UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria defends his belt in a unification bout against interim champion Justin Gaethje in the night’s main event.

The fights were originally scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET, though bad weather in Washington, D.C. has already forced a delay. Featherweights Diego Lopes and Steve Garcia are set to open the card once the action kicks off.
