Every Pokémon Nintendo Switch 2 Controller You Can Buy

Following the launch of every new console comes a deluge of third-party controllers looking to make a splash. Often times, these controllers are less expensive than the standard first-party options, making them particularly appealing if you have children in the house and need some extras on hand. Officially licensed controllers make a great addition to any collection, as they feature popular characters and unique designs.

For Pokémon fans, there are currently only a few controllers designed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, but expect that number to grow significantly in the coming years with Winds and Waves on the horizon. For now, here are all of the Pokemon-themed controllers you can buy for Nintendo Switch 2.

PowerA makes some of the most popular licensed controllers, featuring iconic Nintendo characters from just about every franchise including Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon. While there were dozens of options to choose from for Pokémon fans during the Switch 1 era, PowerA only has one Pokémon-themed Switch 2 controller available at the moment. Some key improvements over the previous generation include improved thumbsticks featuring Hall effect sensors, programmable back buttons, motion controls, and the dedicated C button for GameChat.

HORI Wired Controllers

HORI is known for its wide array of Nintendo Switch controller options, including the popular Split Pad Pro controllers, which attached directly to the console for an improved handheld experience. Currently, HORI’s Switch 2 controller selection is a bit thin, limited to a handful of wireless and wired options. For Pokémon fans, that selection is even thinner, as it’s just two wired controllers to choose from. The HORIPAD Turbo wired controller features programmable back buttons, turbo functionality, adjustable dead zones, and the C button needed to use GameChat.

Compatible Switch 1 Controllers

If the designs above didn’t catch your eye, then thankfully there are still plenty of wireless and wired Pokémon controllers available for the original Nintendo Switch to choose from that will work with Switch 2. Keep in mind, while these will pair to the system just fine, they won’t have updated features like the C button required for GameChat.

Can you use Switch 1 controllers on Switch 2?

Yes. Nintendo Switch controllers are compatible with Nintendo Switch 2 (both wireless and wired), although certain features may be limited or missing. For example, Switch 1 controllers won’t have the C button required for GameChat or be able to wake the Nintendo Switch 2 from sleep.

Controllers designed specifically for Switch 2 also have upgraded haptics, allowing for more immersive vibration while playing. If you’re looking to use your Switch 1 Joy-Con controllers, it’s worth noting that they can’t be physically attached to the Switch 2, so you’ll need to charge them separately.
