Veterans’ services, Atlantic Salmon stocks and expanding restitution orders on the agenda

What’s on the agenda for the House and Senate committees today.

With the sitting set to wind down next week, just three House committees are slated to meet in public today, although several others are scheduled to gather in camera.

VETERANS AFFAIRS members will hear from the Union of Veterans’ Affairs Employees and kinesiologist Eric Vila before wrapping up the public phase of their investigation into the multimillion dollar contract awarded to Partners in Canadian Veterans Rehabilitation Services before heading behind closed doors to begin working on their report. (3:30 p.m.)

Over at FISHERIES AND OCEANS, MPs will get an update on Atlantic Salmon populations during a panel discussion with representatives of the Atlantic Salmon Federation, Miramichi Salmon Association, Kingsclear First Nation and Fédération québécoise pour le saumon atlantique, as well as biologist Pierre D’Amours and angler Paul White. (4 p.m.)

Meanwhile, Liberal MP VIviane Lapointe will present her backbench proposal to expand the use of restitution orders to include front-line community organizations during an afternoon session with JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS members. (4:30 p.m.)
