Vampire: The Masquerade – Eternal Whispers is a new, Disco Elysium-like CRPG

Vampire: The Masquerade is getting a full CRPG treatment with Vampire: The Masquerade – Eternal Whispers. Published by Kwalee, the Disco Elysium-inspired project is the debut video game from tabletop studio Flyos, the creator of Vampire: The Masquerade — Chapters.

Revealed during today’s PC Gaming Show stream, the new game tells an original story in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, though it borrows some ideas from Chapters and features some legendary characters from the series. All of that is placed into a choice-driven, “fail-forward” RPG that wears its Disco Elysium influence on its sleeve.

Set 20 years after the RPG’s Montreal by Night expansion, the story centers on a Kindred named Gabe. (Players can make their own Gabe via a character creator.) Awakened from a long slumber and unaware of who sired them, Gabe meets up with a Thin-blood named Sam. The two team up to solve a series of mysteries in a dark version of Montreal.

The dialogue-driven gameplay is primarily built around investigation, and it does not feature any traditional combat. Instead, players must complete dice-driven skill checks to get through conversations. Those checks are influenced by your character sheet, which features 15 upgradable skills that fall under Social, Mental, and Physical. Your checks can also be impacted by inventory items and consumables. Flyos says that the game has no singular golden path, and players’ choices will shape the story.

Flyos isn’t being shy about the fact that it was inspired by Disco Elysium, and you can see that in Eternal Whispers’ visual style. It has the same top-down art style, with dialogue unfolding on the right side of the screen. The main area it differs is in its structure. It’s a mission-based RPG, with each investigation taking between 90 minutes and two hours to complete. In between missions, players head back to a hub safe house that has a library that Gabe needs to maintain.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Eternal Whispers has been in development since 2023, but it does not have an official release date as of yet.
