Memorial Tournament third round suspended because of thunderstorms

The third round of the Memorial Tournament was suspended because of thunderstorms and will resume on Sunday with JT Poston and Ryan Gerard in a share of the lead.

The American pair were nine under par at the sixth green when the hooter sounded to signal thunderstorms in the area for a second time.

After a delay of an hour and 40 minutes, play was suspended for the day at Muirfield Village in Ohio.

The third round will resume at 07:30 local time (12:30 BST), with the final round to follow in groups of three off the first and 10th tees.

Sam Burns is third on eight under, one shot ahead of fellow American Eric Cole. England’s Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Wyndham Clark and Keegan Bradley are four under.

England’s Justin Rose is two under. World number one Scottie Scheffler, aiming to win the tournament for a third straight year, Masters champion Rory McIlroy and US PGA winner Aaron Rai are among a clutch of players on one under.
